Boston's top cop swapped his badge for a serving tray to dish out Thanksgiving cheer to over a thousand of the city's homeless population, this Tuesday at TD Garden.
Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox led a line of public figures and local celebrities in the TD Garden Neighborhood Charities' 27th Annual Table of Friends, a commendable act that achieved more than just filling empty stomachs, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
The buzz in the arena was palpable as TD Garden, along with Friends of Boston’s Homeless, transformed the space into a banquet hall where volunteers, including elected officials and staff from the arena's resident teams, the Bruins and the Celtics, served up hot meals and handed out winter care packs.
In a demonstration of community unification, these meals represented a shared humanity, a reminder to the fortunate where fortune is not measured in currency alone, but also in the compassion because the event also saw the charitable branch of the arena contribute a significant $5000 to The Housing Start Up Fund which aims to lift the vulnerable out of shelters and into sustainable living arrangements where the dream of a homespun Thanksgiving might one day be more than just a wish on the wind.
