A string of brazen armed robberies has Chicago's 14th (Sharespeare), 16th (Jefferson Park), 17th (Albany Park), and 25th (Grand Central) Districts on high alert as police scramble to put the brakes on a crime spree that has locals on edge. Authorities have linked a series of thefts to a trio of gunmen described as young males in ski masks, and the community is urged to remain vigilant the Chicago Police Department warned.
The marauding robbers, quickly exiting a black Nissan Altima with Illinois license plate BM86024, have been striking fear into residents by displaying handguns and aggressively demanding their valuables. Sources say that during these harrowing thefts, victims have not only been robbed but have also been subjected to physical violence, with at least one person being shot. In a statement obtained by the Chicago Police Department's official website, it was detailed how the suspects "point the guns at victims, then demand the victim's personal property (wallets, purses, bags, USC, cellphones)."
Last Friday's crime wave saw the assailants strike multiple times across the city, with incidents occurring within hours of each other. Targets ranged from Lorel Avenue to Wicker Park Avenue, painting a troubling picture of a city under siege as night fell.
Prominent in the string of assaults is a disturbing pattern of escalating violence, with the latest incident involving a shot being fired according to the Community Alert. The police advise to always be conscious of one’s surroundings and to not try to bravely confront the offenders, as this could lead to possible injury. The alert also encourages group travel and cautions against carrying large sums of money. "Notify neighbors of this crime pattern. If you see something suspicious, alert police immediately," the police advised.
The Chicago Police Department is urging anyone with information to step forward. They stress the importance of reporting any sightings by calling 911 and providing as much detail as possible about the offenders and any vehicles they may be using.
