Flames ripped through a city office at the storied Northerly Island Visitor Center in the Windy City, leaving Chicago's harbor agency without a home base. In the early Sunday haze, when the skyline normally glimmers off the Lake Michigan shores, a ferocious fire broke out on the fabled grounds of what was once Meigs Field, PiPa News reports.
At around 5 a.m., the first floor of a two-story legacy was shaken by flames at 1521 S. Linn White Drive. As a testament to the unforeseen, the Chicago Sun-Times shared that the blaze forced the immediate closure of at least one office within the visitor center—a notable disruption in an edifice anchoring the community's maritime operations.
In the solemn words echoed on the harbor agency's own digital mouthpiece, "We regret to inform you that our office building suffered a fire incident over the weekend," the closure cast an indefinite shadow over the historic site. Adhering to the necessity of public safety over sentiment, the agency's announcement was clear: "As a result, our physical office location at 1521 S. Linn White Drive will be closed ... until further notice."
