On Saturday, numerous vehicle thefts occurred in Chicago's 12th Police District as reported by a community alert from the Chicago Police Department. Along with general property theft, two unsecured firearms were tragically stolen from these vehicles.
Throughout November, thefts from vehicles escalated in the 12th District, mostly on Beats 1211, 1212, 1213 and 1214. The theft of unsecured firearms is a great concern, highlighting the need for responsible gun ownership and secure firearm storage.
In an effort to preventing similar incidents in the future, the Chicago Police Department community alert suggests several precautions. These include parking in well-lit areas, installing theft deterrent systems, using safer vehicle gun storages and being cognizant of one's surroundings. Also, reporting stolen firearms promptly is critical in the fight against gun violence.
