Copper Top Coffee & Donuts, a respected name in San Diego's coffee and doughnut scene, plans to reopen in Pacific Beach before year-end as reported by Eater San Diego. The announcement of the move follows the closure of its Hillcrest drive-thru in the spring, attributed to the complexity of delivering fresh, made-to-order doughnuts on demand. The Mission Boulevard location hopes to enhance the spotlight on the firm's specialty, tailor-made doughnuts with housemade sauces and toppings.
Copper Top owner Josh McCorkle chose not to renew its lease on Washington Street, facing challenges with the drive-thru model. He now plans to expand the business with three or four new locations across San Diego. Copper Top has gained a significant following through its fresh, made-to-order doughnuts, particularly favorites such as 16 Candles and the Elvis, consisting of unique elements like salted caramel, marshmallow, and sprinkles.
Beyond doughnuts, Copper Top Coffee & Donuts menus also feature breakfast sandwiches, acai bowls, and smoothies. The Pacific Beach location will see an expansion to its offerings, which include coffee and espresso drinks. McCorkle sources beans from Copper Top's sister company in Seattle, yet dreams of opening a local roastery in San Diego.
