Hearts were full as were the plates this Tuesday in East Boston, where local boys in blue swapped their handcuffs for serving spoons at the community's annual Thanksgiving celebration. In a gesture of goodwill that has become a neighborhood hallmark, officers from District A-7 joined forces with the East Boston Community Soup Kitchen, dishing out traditional Thanksgiving fare to all comers according to a statement from the police department.
Helping to serve up turkey, stuffing, and all the trimmings, the officers eagerly participated, ensuring that the spirit of the holiday was not confined to the family table but embedded within the broader fabric of East Boston's community. And while the feast would whet the appetite, it was the sense of solidarity and connection that simmered in the hearts of those present, nourishing souls and society alike.
Lending a hand to the Soup Kitchen's efforts, the annual event according to the police bulletin, has been a "huge success."
