The grand opening of Valley Senior Village represents an important initiative for the community of Escondido, providing marginalized seniors with much-needed, affordable homes. According to the County News Center's report yesterday, Valley Senior Village is an affordable housing development specifically designed for low-income seniors, a location that now houses former unsheltered residents.

The $24 million project was made possible by a cooperative effort from the County of San Diego, National CORE, and San Diego Community Housing Corporation. Constructing the Valley Senior Village kicked off in January 2022, reaching completion in August. The housing complex consists of 50 units for residents aged 62 and above, which as of now, are fully occupied.

The Valley Senior Village's organizers didn't merely build a safe place, they also created an environment that promotes stability and independence. They have achieved this by equipping the facility with in-house medical and mental health programs. Details from the County News Center highlight that these amenities which include case management, are facilitated by San Ysidro Health, Interfaith Community Services, and the Hope through Housing Foundation, working in partnership with County Behavioral Health Services.

Valley Senior Village marks the County's seventh contribution to affordable housing projects this year, with another nine initiatives planned for 2023.

The Innovative Housing Trust Fund and No Place Like Home capital and operating funds provided a $10 million financial boost for Valley Senior Village’s development.
