A Thanksgiving gathering turned violent early Friday when an uninvited guest, reportedly the ex-boyfriend of the host's sister, shot a man on Chicago's South Side. The confrontation occurred around 3:50 a.m. in the 6700 block of South Eberhart Avenue, in the heart of Woodlawn. The 44-year-old host was engaged in a "brief altercation" with the shooter, which ended with him sustaining bullet wounds to the left thigh and left hand before the gunman fled the scene as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times.
In a similarly eerie and violent echo, in the same block just months prior, another man had been found shot multiple times. Around 11:50 a.m. on September 23, 2022, a 28-year-old was discovered outside with critical injuries. Having been shot in the chest, leg, and buttocks, the victim was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. Found with no arrests having been made, detectives from Area One were left piecing together the circumstances of that shooting, according to the Chicago Police Department.
