A truck fire halted traffic on I-294 in Willow Springs, Illinois for several hours yesterday, November 14. The fire originated from a collision involving a car hauler and another commercial vehicle. The scene was spotlighted by lights from the Mile Long Bridge Project, reports ABC7 Chicago.
The explicit details of the accident remain uncertain. However, vivid images of seething flames and thick smoke billowing across the bridge were captured, as reported by NBC Chicago.
A traveler on the highway, Jessica Selim, provided a first-hand account of the harrowing experience. "We heard and felt that explosion and that boom, and so the whole car rumbled," Selim narrated to ABC7 Chicago. Amidst the chaos, it was reported that the driver of the car hauler escaped with minor injuries and no other serious casualties were reported.
By 8:30 p.m., the lanes had reopened, reports NBC Chicago.
