Today, November 11, a fire was set ablaze on a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) L train causing minor damages and temporary service disruption in the Loop, as reported by ABC7 Chicago. The event occurred around 1 a.m. near the block of West Van Buren Street, triggering an investigation by the Chicago Police Department's arson unit.
Following the culprit's escape, Orange Line trains bound for Loop were halted near the Harold Washington Library for about two hours, a statement released by CTA verified the delay, as covered by Chicago Sun Times.
A female conductor managed to extinguish fire, preventing additional damages and injuries. Despite being unaffected, she was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures.
While the first incident was being managed, an unrelated second incident took place at the same station where an individual on a wheelchair accidentally fell onto the tracks. The individual was quickly attended to by the Chicago Fire Department and was promptly taken to the hospital, reported being in stable condition.
Authorities continue their efforts to find the arsonist.
