A 10-year-old Dallas County boy was fortunately found unharmed in Mexico and is now back on U.S. soil, reuniting with his worried family. Ian Aguilar, whose disappearance sparked a statewide Amber Alert on Nov. 14 following the brutal murder of his mother in their North Texas home, was located on Saturday. The Wilmer Police Department declared the alert canceled, thanks to international collaborative efforts to safely locate the young boy.
The police department emphasized the “countless hours of hard work and investigation by many law enforcement agencies, support groups, and their counterparts on both the U.S. and Mexico sides of the border,” as reported by Dallas News.
The tragic ordeal began when Ian's mother, Zoleika Arzate-Lopez, 48, was found dead, leading authorities to suspect her former partner and Ian's father, Juan Aguilar-Cano, 38, in both her murder and the subsequent abduction of Ian. As per an update by the police, Aguilar-Cano's whereabouts remained a mystery, last seen in Houston, and a vehicle thought to be connected with the kidnapping was later discovered abandoned at a bus station known for frequent trips across the border, NBCDFW reports.
Earlier, the Wilmer Police had speculated that Ian might have been in Mexico with other family members and not with his father, according to a statement to Fox 4 News, maintaining hope while also transparently acknowledging they needed to "absolutely verify Ian is not in danger" to close the case. The young boy's safety had been of paramount concern, with local reports highlighting that Ian, an autistic child, was largely dependent on his mother, as detailed in an interview with his sister Zuri Lopez with Hoodline.
Zuri Lopez, in anguish over her mother's untimely death and her brother's disappearance, recounted the distressing chain of events and the profound impact of the troubling relationship between her mother and Aguilar-Cano. "She was in a toxic relationship with this man; she was fed up with him and wanted him out of her life. She finally had made plans to make that happen," she solemnly told Hoodline.
