Yesterday, Brighton and Dorchester were the scenes of incidents leading to four arrests and the recovery of two firearms. A community already dealing with narcotics and gun violence was once again thrust into turmoil.
As cited in a Boston Police Department report, officers responded to reports of gunfire at 64 Brooks Street, Brighton. Upon arrival, they found evidence of the shooting, with no injuries reported. The officers arrested 18-year-old Jan Luis Santiago-Morales of Brighton on firearm-related charges and found 19 bags believed to be filled with crack cocaine.
Later the same day, an Anti-Crime Unit apprehended Javeon Phillips, 20, Geremia Knights, 23, and a 17-year-old male, as suspects connected to the earlier Brighton incident. Following their capture, the officers seized a loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm and a Smith and Wesson with extra bullets in its magazine, and confirmed two suspects had outstanding arrest warrants.
