Hayward Boosts Economy with Bonus Dollars Promotion and e-Gift Card ProgramSource: City of Hayward

The City of Hayward is bolstering its economy and supporting local businesses by reintroducing its successful Bonus Dollars Promotion. Starting on the 20th, this initiative is part of the Together for Hayward e-Gift Card Program. It rewards residents for contributing to their community's commercial revitalization per the City of Hayward.

A recent announcement by the City of Hayward detailed the incentive offered with this promotion: bonus cards to accompany the purchase of a Together for Hayward e-gift card. For example, purchasing a $50 card adds an additional $25 bonus card. Larger purchases yield more substantial bonus awards, with a $100 purchase earning a $100 bonus card.

Referencing lessons from its first-year success, the program facilitated purchases of more than $475,000 in e-gift cards used locally. This year's introduction of the Bonus Dollars Promotion provides community members with an opportunity to shop and support local businesses.

Another benefit is that, unlike traditional gift cards, these e-gift cards provide a flexible digital purchasing experience. They allow customers to split original and bonus values across various businesses and share their cards with friends and family via text or email to increase the promotion's influence and reach.

However, there's a limit to the available bonus cards, and each cannot be limited to three per customer. This initiative has a duration of 90 days, with the bonus cards needing to be used in full within this timeframe to ensure ongoing support for participating businesses.

More than 120 businesses accept these e-gift cards, all of whom are listed on the city's gift card page. In time for Small Business Saturday on the 25th, customers are encouraged to discover local culinary spots and retailers. Some businesses are expected to announce special promotions and offers.
