A fatal hit-and-run in Jacksonville, Illinois, led to the charging of a man, identified as David A. Clark, 52. The incident occurred last Friday and resulted in the death of a Roodhouse woman, Judy A. Menge, 71 as reported by Fox Illinois. Charges against Clark include leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and personal injury, driving with a suspended driver's license, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The accident took place on East Roodhouse Road, with Menge being struck by a purple 2007 Chevy Impala allegedly driven by Clark. According to WLDS, Clark left the scene shortly after the collision, while Menge was pronounced dead at the scene by Greene County Coroner Danny Powell.
Clark was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement and is currently being held in the Greene County Jail awaiting trial. If found guilty of to the most serious charges, Clark could serve between 4 and 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections as per Fox Illinois.
While charges against Clark have been brought, the investigation is far from being concluded. The Greene County State Attorney's Office suggested the possible inclusion of additional charges following the completion of the Illinois State Police's investigation according to WLDS.
As the investigation and subsequent trial proceed, it is hoped that they will provide some closure and justice for those affected by this tragic event.
