Santa Clara County is all set to mark a quarter-century-long tradition - The Fantasy of Lights. According to the County of Santa Clara County, the first batch of tickets are already sold out for the eagerly anticipated walk-thru event, but two more releases are scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 5 at noon and Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The ticket release gives fans further opportunities to secure an entrance pass.
A cherished annual event since its inception, the walk-thru tour of Fantasy of Lights is organized at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos. This beloved tradition invites residents and tourists to walk through the illuminated spectacle on Dec. 2 and 3 for a mesmerizing experience. If you'd rather drive, drive-through tours will start from Dec. 5 until Dec. 30. But, a word of caution - pre-Christmas slots tend to sell out rapidly.
Large celebratory events always promise surprises, and the 25th anniversary of the walk-thru is no exception. The itinerary features a potpourri of time-honored classics and recent installations. Attendees can look forward to admiring the Dino Den, pirate bay, alongside newer attractions like Sensorio-inspired field of flowers, The Serpent of Lake Vasona, and hoops-shooting Santa. The Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department reports these illuminations and moving light tunnels remain a crowd-pleaser.
Since its inaugural celebration, the Fantasy of Lights display has grown from strength to strength. Now boasting half a million individual light bulbs, one of the key transformations has been the LED makeover that took place in 2015. According to the Santa Clara County Government website, the swap to energy-saving LEDs has also led to a reduction in the number of generators used, despite the ever-growing number of displays included.
Despite the community's apparent excitement for the annual Fantasy of Lights, the setup phase has drawn some criticism. Debra King, Park Program Coordinator, mentioned the installation commencing in early September has met with complaints from quirky park-goers who feel it is "too early for Christmas." But she believes, "the lights need to begin to be ready by December."
The Fantasy of Lights remains a much-loved holiday event in Santa Clara County, introducing new and captivating displays every year.
