The Pan-Mass Challenge has donated a record-breaking $72 million to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, thereby inching closer to a cumulative fundraising milestone of $1 billion since 1980. The annual cross-state bicycle ride attracts riders traveling toward Cape Cod each year, as reported by Boston.com and NBC Boston.
The largest single-event athletic fundraiser worldwide, the Pan-Mass Challenge sees approximately 6,500 participants who cycle up to 211 miles across the state. The charity event has reportedly raised a staggering $972 million for cancer care, becoming the single largest contributor to Dana-Farber and its Jimmy Fund, according to Boston.com.
As highlighted by NBC Boston, this record-breaking donation follows a trend, being the third time in a row that the Pan-Mass Challenge has broken its own fundraising record. It surpassed the $69 million raised in 2022, exceeding its initial fundraising goal for 2023, which was $70 million. With impressive progress, the billion-dollar mark is in sight as the goal for next year's fundraiser.
The commitment and determination of the cyclists and supporters are constantly furthering the cause of the Pan-Mass Challenge, which has not only generated substantial funds, but also a vein of hope for many affected by cancer.
