Antisemitic incidents were reported on November 5 in Jefferson Park, Chicago, with antisemitic messages found on vehicles. The concerning messages were added using cardboard signs from a group named the Goyim Defense League, NBC Chicago reported.
At the same time, antisemitic flyers were discovered outside homes in La Grange Park, similar to those recently witnessed in Elmhurst ABC7 Chicago mentions. In addition, pro-Israel yard signs were found destroyed in suburban Skokie, some days prior. The incidents suggest a rising issue with antisemitism in Illinois.
Reacting to the incidents, Congressman Jesus "Chuy" Garcia issued a statement condemning the hate crimes. He underlined his Jewish constituents' right to live without fear or intimidation and called for unity in his diverse district. His comments coincide with an Anti-Defamation League report showing a disturbing increase in antisemitic actions in Illinois over the last year.
A Palestinian family in Hickory Hills also encountered discrimination, receiving a threatening letter after putting up a "Free Palestine" yard sign. The sign was a response to an increase in violence between Israeli and Hamas forces, ABC7 Chicago reported.
