A deadly exchange in Atlanta's upscale Buckhead neighborhood left three men dead and one injured in what police say was a drug deal that spiraled into violence. The shooting occurred inside an apartment at 3005 Buckhead along Peachtree Road NE, as per information from the Atlanta police.
Officers received the call at approximately 6:44 p.m. on Saturday night, responding to reports of gunfire on the 11th floor of the luxury apartment complex, within a stone's throw of the bustling shopping district however, upon arrival, they discovered a gruesome scene: four men with gunshot wounds, three of whom could not be revived, their lives snuffed out in moments of chaos and bloodshed, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The survivor was hastily rushed to a local hospital, his condition as of the latest reports remained undisclosed; the Atlanta Police Department has not yet released the names of any individuals involved in the incident. A preliminary investigation suggests that the violence erupted from a marijuana deal gone awry, leading to an exchange of gunfire between the parties involved, Maj. Peter Malecki of the APD detailed in a statement obtained by WOWT.
Maj. Malecki further explained the nature of the incident, "This wasn’t a home invasion type of scenario, we believe that the perpetrators were invited in for that drug exchange," emphasizing the prearranged nature of the meeting that ultimately turned deadly. The crime scene yielded several handguns, the origins and ownerships of which are still under investigation as police scramble to piece together the evening's deadly events.
While the investigators continue their due diligence, more information is expected to emerge, shedding light on the circumstances that led to the perilous fallout of what began as an illicit drug deal, ending in bloodshed and loss.
