Chaos erupted on the Tamiami Trail this Friday as a head-on crash between two pickup trucks resulted in three injuries and major traffic disruptions. The collision occurred in the 24000 block of SW 8th Street, forcing local authorities to shut down the roadway in West Miami-Dade.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident was triggered when a white Ford pickup truck, journeying west on State Road 90, veered into an oncoming lane, smashing into a white Toyota pickup. Lieutenant Alex Camacho, of the Florida Highway Patrol, provided details of the harrowing incident to NBC Miami.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue was dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a traffic accident with injuries. Upon arrival, they found the vehicles badly damaged, necessitating the closing of the trail while rescue operations were underway. The blockage extended to Westbound State Road 90 at Krome Ave, snarling traffic for hours, as per CBS Miami.
All occupants of the Ford, confirmed to be in stable condition, were transported to Kendall Regional for treatment. Investigators continue to unravel the circumstances that led up to the Ford truck's perilous swerve and subsequent collision.
As of now, the identities of those involved have not been released and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
