The Austin Police Department has launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of skeletal remains in the West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt. After receiving tips of a murder that supposedly took place months earlier, detectives went to the 1100 block of South 6th Street on November 29 to process the scene alongside Crime Scene Specialists and a search rescue K9. The remains, uncovered and subsequently gathered by the Travis County Medical Examiner's office with help from the Texas State Anthropology Department, have yet to be identified.
Acting on leads provided by the public, which included the chilling detail that a body had been buried within the Greenbelt, the Austin Police Department was compelled to treat the case with the utmost seriousness. According to a statement released by the City of Austin Official website, the authorities confirmed that the injuries found on the victim were indeed "consistent with homicide," adding grim confirmation to the allegations initially made by tipsters.
While the investigation remains ongoing, the Austin Police Department is urging the community to come forward with any knowledge that might shed light on this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to reach out to APD's Homicide unit, via phone or email. The possibility of anonymity and a financial incentive of up to $1,000, offered through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, stands as a testament to the importance the authorities have placed on garnering useful leads that could culminate in an arrest.
