Residents of Chicago’s 1st District (Central) have been put on high alert after a string of bold daylight robberies rocked the Central area earlier this month, authorities said. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, the same parking garage on the 800 block of S. Wabash Ave. became the scene for two separate robbery attempts within just 15 minutes on December 2nd.
The suspect, described as an African American male in his late 20s to mid-30s, was reportedly sporting a black jacket with a stark white logo, black pants, and the distinctive Nike gym shoes that are black and white. The Chicago Police Department, in its public statement, urged the community to maintain a heightened sense of awareness and to watch out for individuals or vehicles that seem out of place or are lingering without clear purpose.
In the wake of these incidents, the Chicago Police Department has advised the public to stay vigilant and calm if confronted. They've reinforced the importance of immediately contacting law enforcement by dialing 911 and giving a detailed account of any assailant witnessed, emphasizing identification details from clothing to potential getaway vehicles. Citizens are also encouraged to never chase after a fleeing perpetrator but instead to focus on relaying information to the authorities.
