Residents of several Chicago districts are on high alert after a spate of armed robberies has left the community reeling. According to a Community Alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, individuals are being targeted by assailants after exiting their vehicles, with robbers taking possessions at gunpoint. The crimes, which have occurred in the Ogden, Harrison, and Grand Central districts, saw the offenders quickly approach victims before committing the robberies.
The recent series of incidents includes multiple encounters where robbers wielded firearms to threaten and in some cases, to physically assault victims. Of particular note, victims have been robbed by subjects exiting a white Nissan Maxima, and on one occasion, a blue sedan, possibly another Nissan, was involved. A white Honda Civic was also reported as being used in one of the crimes. In a violent twist to the assaults, victims were often struck in the face with the butt of a handgun.
Details published on the CPD website list a total of twelve occurrences, taking place between 10:00 PM on December 19 and 7:07 AM on December 20, at various locations across the districts. In an effort to help identify these assailants, the offenders are described as three to four male subjects donned in all-black attire, including black ski masks concealing their faces.
The Chicago Police are urging the public to take precautions to ensure their safety, including being vigilant about their surroundings and watching for any suspicious individuals or activities. In the event of witnessing a robbery, the community is reminded never to pursue the fleeing assailants — rather, they should focus on remembering any distinctive features of the offenders such as scars, gait, or tattoos. Residents are also advised to dial 9-1-1 immediately and to avoid interfering with potential evidence.
While the search for these dangerous individuals continues, the police are soliciting help from the public. Anyone with information or anyone approached by witnesses is encouraged to collect contact details and pass them along to law enforcement.
