A tragic tale of loss has emerged from Tulum, Mexico, where a Grand Prairie couple met their demise in a horrific explosion just days after taking the first steps toward their dream vacation home. Gabriel Nunez and his wife Marcela Caballero were asleep in their newly acquired condo when a gas leak led to a deadly blast, leaving the pair with severe third-degree burns, as reported by Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Arriving in Tulum on November 17 with visions of a furnished paradise, the couple had just begun to decorate their condo, with Marcela even sharing a video of their progress with her daughter Brenda Saldana, which was the last glimpse she had of their dream turning into reality. The subsequent explosion was allegedly due to a gas leak from a stationary tank, a danger supposedly hinted at by prior complaints from property owners about the smell of gas, according to FOX 4 News.

In the wake of the tragedy, their grieving daughter, Brenda, courageously endeavored to seek justice for her parents' untimely deaths. She has retained a Dallas law firm, with intentions rooted deeply in holding the developers of the property accountable for what has transpired. As she said, "My parents had just purchased a brand-new condo in Selma Norte, a brand-new project in Tulum, Mexico, and they were going to furnish it for the first time", per FOX 4 News.

Dallas lawyer Juan Hernandez, who is representing the bereaved family, has submitted a lawsuit against the developers. "Explosions like this are not uncommon in Mexico, especially in areas where there are a lot of new buildings," Hernandez remarked, flagging the frequency of such unfortunate events. It was the residents at Selva Norte who aired their worries concerning gas leaks the day before Nunez and Caballero's condo was engulfed in flames, as per Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

As the couple's 22-year-old daughter, Brenda, and their 17-year-old son pick up the pieces, a GoFundMe page has been established to mitigate the financial burden of medical and funeral costs. Attorney Hernandez, outlining the family's desperate need for support, said, "There is a lot of people in need. This family is certainly one of them." The struggle to cope with wrenching grief is now twinned with a legal battle that seeks to shed light on the accountability of property developers in the face of such dire misfortune, per Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
