In the spirit of community and unity, Eden Prairie's Chief of Police, Matt Sackett, conveyed his gratitude towards the city residents for their unwavering support in a year-end message. Eden Prairie Police Department commemorated its 50th anniversary this past year, a milestone marked with significant community collaboration that bolstered the force's effectiveness in maintaining public safety.
Throughout 2023, the Eden Prairie Police worked side by side with various local organizations, a testament to the city's dedication to fostering a safe and vibrant community. One initiative saw the department team up with PROP (People Reaching Out to other People), resulting in a whopping 9,600 pounds of food collected from the community during the Night to Unite event. Additionally, the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund and Scheels partnered with local officers and firefighters on the "Holidays with Heroes" event, assisting 12 kids with their Christmas shopping for family, in a statement obtained by Eden Prairie's government communication platform.
The intention of giving back did not end there. The Eden Prairie Lions Club made a substantial donation of $10,000 to the Police Department, paving the way for advancements including equipment storage and technological solutions essential for operating a new UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) police vehicle. This gesture shows not only the generosity of the Lions Club but also their trust in the department's mission for progressive policing.
Chief Sackett didn't forget to appreciate the 'little things' done by the Eden Prairie folks, who, by actions like reporting suspicious activities or providing aid during medical emergencies, have exemplified the essence of a communal force against disorder. In a short video, which citizens were encouraged to watch, the department highlighted various ways the public and police collaborate to fortify the fabric of the community, according to the official year-end bulletin.
Concluding his message, Chief Sackett imparted thanks for an outstanding 2023 and reflected fondly on the previous 50 years of service. The past is laden with achievements and goodwill, and with sights set on the horizon, the Chief, on behalf of the department, looked forward to future endeavors hand in hand with the Eden Prairie residents in the years to come.
