Forty-five years after a firefighter saved a young boy and his sister from a blaze, a heartwarming reunion unfolded in Boston. Joseph Gilmore, the retired Boston firefighter, met for the first time with the now 48-year-old Umar Fox, and his mother Silvia. "Oh my God, you saved my kids," Silvia Fox said during the poignant encounter at Florian Hall, as reported by the Boston Globe.

It was on December 26, 1978, when a two-alarm fire tore through the Fox family's Dorchester home. Gilmore sprang into action, rescuing 3-year-old Umar and his 9-year-old sister Lisa from the inferno. A photograph taken by Boston Globe photographer George Rizer captured the intensity of the moment, showing Gilmore carrying the children to safety. WCVB provided details on the family's long search to reconnect with their savior, noting, "The Fox family has been trying for years to track down Gilmore to thank him for rescuing Umar and Lisa."

In an interview with the WCVB, Umar Fox honored his rescuer saying, "This guy saved our lives. We wouldn't be here. I have wonderful children, my sister has great kids. They're all grown up and doing big things right now." Then Gilmore quipped, "Oh my God! I wouldn't want to pick you up now, buddy," upon greeting a grown Umar.

Umar told him, "What you did, in turn, saved other people's lives and brought more into the world."
