Four men are facing serious charges after a daring attempted burglary in the affluent Rancho Santa Fe area, which led to a high-speed chase ending in a dramatic crash last week, officials said. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department identified the suspects as Ignacio Antonio Parra Otarola, Eduardo Andres Mora Jara, Jeremy Javier Ramirez Munoz, and Fabian Cristobal Jerez Avarca, according to a news release by the department. The four were arrested on December 23 and are set to be arraigned at the Central Courthouse in Downtown San Diego.
The attempted break-in allegedly occurred just before 8 p.m. on December 23 in the 6800 block of Poco Lago, where the suspects attempted to force their way into a residence. Upon being spotted, they fled into a nearby canyon and sped away in a vehicle, leading deputies on a frantic pursuit. The high-stakes chase ended when the suspects' vehicle crashed into a community gate, after which they attempted to escape on foot, as detailed in a report by Hoodline.
An extensive search involving deputies from 4S Ranch, Poway, Encinitas and aerial support from ASTREA resulted in the quick apprehension of the culprits. Stolen property was retrieved from the suspects' vehicle, linking them to the crime, and they now face charges including felony evading, residential burglary, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest. All four were booked into San Diego Central Jail following their arrest.
"Deputies from 4S Ranch, along with backup from Poway, Encinitas, and aerial support from ASTREA, worked in coordination to apprehend the suspects," said Lieutenant Lon Nguyen in a statement by Hoodline. Detectives from local Poway and Encinitas stations have taken over the investigation, assuring a thorough examination of the attempted burglary and the ensuing chase.
