A Grand Prairie police officer shot and killed a woman who allegedly pointed a gun at them during a family violence incident this weekend, Texas authorities reported. The deadly encounter occurred on the 1200 block of Tripoli Trail after officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:10 p.m. on Saturday following a report of an assault in progress, per The Dallas Morning News.
The initial responding officers helped the assault victim escape through a window and move to safety. However, as police were taking the victim's statement, the suspect, a woman, emerged from the residence and advanced toward the officers while wielding a firearm.
An officer discharged their duty weapon, fatally wounding the armed suspect. First aid was rendered to the woman, but she was ultimately pronounced dead at the site of the confrontation. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed, as officials are still waiting to notify the next of kin.
The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure in the wake of police-involved shootings. Both the Dallas County District Attorney's Office and the Grand Prairie Police Department are currently conducting separate investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting, according to WFAA.
