Earlier today, an attempted burglary in Miami-Dade escalated into gunfire at a west Miami-Dade apartment complex. Miami-Dade Police are on the scene after shots were reported at the address 8183 NW Eighth St., as per Local 10 News. Authorities received a call around 5 a.m. when a resident heard noises and discovered individuals attempting to steal a catalytic converter, an auto part that has risen in black market value.
The situation grew tense after the resident, armed and facing the suspected thieves, exchanged gunfire. Before the police could arrive, the suspects fled in a Nissan Altima, and despite efforts, they were lost to sight by the officers, as reported by Local 10 News. There have been no reported injuries in this shootout that arose during the burglary gone sideways.
The area around the apartment complex has been cordoned off as investigators fan out, combing for evidence in the wake of the attempted crime. WSVN states that two men were allegedly at the center of this criminal act; their intention was the removal of the catalytic converter from a parked vehicle.
Preliminary reports by the police indicate that the burst of gunshots did not result in any physical injuries, a stroke of luck in an otherwise potentially deadly exchange. While the investigation continues, officials are piecing together the narrative of what transpired, according to WSVN.
