A Lincoln Park piercing studio was jolted by the sound of shattering glass as burglars ram-raided the storefront, making off with electronics and various items in a quick-hit theft that has left the neighborhood on edge. The Rowan Piercing Studio, located in the 2000 block of North Sheffield Avenue, became the latest victim of smash-and-grab crime when a group of five suspects, described by the WLS as emerging from a red Hyundai sedan, executed the burglary just after 1 a.m., Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The culprits, undeterred by the potential of being caught, brazenly smashed the front glass and entered the studio, ransacking the business and snatching a laptop among other items before their abrupt departure. As reported by WLS, both cite timestamps of the incident not long after the witching hour, a time when the neighborhood's usual bustle gives way to the stillness that these perpetrators exploited.
This was not an isolated incident, as two other Lincoln Park businesses endured similar fates the prior morning and had their tranquility cleaved by the strike of unknown assailants; these locations in the 1100 block of West Wrightwood Avenue were compromised similarly with broken doors, though in these instances, the thieves left without plunder, according to WLS. The motivations behind these breaches remain shrouded, the rewards absent, but the intention clear—a pattern of predation upon the unsuspecting businesses of the area.
No one is in custody, and Area Three detectives are investigating.
