A man was left with burns to his legs after a fire ravaged a DeKalb County church playground on Wednesday night. The incident unfolded at the Indian Creek Baptist Church located off Rockbridge Road. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, DeKalb County police arrived on the scene shortly before 10:35 p.m. to find the playground engulfed in flames and a male victim in his 50s needing urgent medical attention.
Efforts to quickly contain the fire and immediately provide help to the injured man were executed, but the playground was beyond saving and ultimately destroyed. The victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was rushed to an area hospital suffering non-life-threatening injuries. However, the severity of his condition remains to be closely monitored.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, an arson unit was called to the scene, following standard procedure due to the nature of the incident. This information was shared by Atlanta News First, which also reported that very little of the playground, a staple for children's recreation and joy, remains standing.
As it stands, no further details have been released by the authorities, and they have yet to determine how the fire managed to suddenly break out. Both the local police and fire departments are actively investigating the scene to unravel the cause behind this unnerving occurrence.
