In the annual roundup of its transportation advancements, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is proudly touting a year of innovation and improvement in the Gopher State. Throughout 2023, MnDOT joined forces with 16 universities, tackling 179 projects and leaning on the expertise of over 617 technical advisors, as noted in their recently published Annual report, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Focused on enhancing safety, promoting equity, bettering asset management, addressing climate change, and preparing for future needs, MnDOT has spearheaded various initiatives that resonate with Minnesotans’ daily lives. This includes optimizing freight flow, testing a rust-resistant reinforcement for bridges, and refining a navigation system to aid snowplow drivers in treacherous conditions. "We continued to advance MnDOT’s research strategic priorities: safety, equity, asset management, climate change and the environment, and innovation and future needs," as stated by Minnesota Department of Transportation.
As we look ahead to 2024, MnDOT is not merely resting on its laurels. The department is geared up to introduce an updated Research Strategic Plan and to test a new framework for monitoring the benefits of research projects. "Looking towards 2024, we are excited to release our updated Research Strategic Plan and pilot a new research benefit monitoring framework, developed through our Value of Research project," as per Minnesota Department of Transportation.
