An early morning house fire in Miramar, Florida, quickly turned a family's home into a blazing emergency but, fortunately, ended with no physical injuries. Miramar Fire Rescue units responded to the crisis on Ramona Drive around 3 a.m. today, after flames were spotted by a neighbor. NBC Miami reported that the fire appeared to begin in an external structure connected to the residence before spreading quickly inside.
Despite the potential for disaster, the family, which numbers between eight and ten people, managed to safely evacuate their home. Firefighters, who arrived on scene swiftly, were able to control the fire. Battalion Chief Fermin Ortea from Miramar Fire Rescue, in a statement obtained by WSVN, said, "We received a report of a structure fire at about 3:12 in the morning. Upon arrival, crews reported heavy fire to the rear of the structure." Ortea also noted that the crews were able "to quickly advance a hose line into the structure and they were able to extinguish a fire rather quickly."
The intensity of the fire was captured on cellphone footage, showing high flames and thick smoke. While the fire wreaked havoc on the residence, it was reported not to be a total loss. Nevertheless, the residents are prohibited from returning to their charred dwelling until further notice. One of the daughters of the family, who chose to remain anonymous, described the emotionally charged scene to WSVN stating, "Unfortunately this is my parent’s house, so they’re freaking out."
The American Red Cross has stepped in to offer support for the displaced family. The initial assessment by fire officials suggests the fire might have an electrical origin, but investigations are ongoing, led by the state fire marshal. As fire crews continued to scour the site for evidence, the family huddled together in their backyard, their home's integrity compromised, and their futures uncertain, but their lives mercifully intact. "I think they have to be out of the house for a couple of days, so we’re just trying to figure out what's gonna happen next," conveyed one of the family members in an interview by WSVN.
