A 54-year-old North Texas man, Samuel Wilson, has been sentenced to spend 40 years behind bars after entering a guilty plea for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. The judgment was made in a Tarrant County court this past Wednesday, putting an end to a case that has chilled the local community since last year, as reported by The Dallas Morning News.
The victim, 51-year-old Sabrina Freeman, was found on June 18, 2022, in her Grand Prairie apartment with multiple fatal lacerations. Upon response to a welfare check call around 8:45 p.m. in the vicinity of N. State Highway 360 and East Pioneer Parkway, officers were to discover Freeman's deceased. The police later confirmed that Wilson and Freeman had once been in a relationship.
Phil Sorrells, the Tarrant County District Attorney, shared that Freeman was stabbed 13 times, noting the sheer brutality of the crime. Freeman's life was tragically cut short in the attack that has now led her former partner to a lengthy prison sentence, as per Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Following the grim discovery, Wilson turned himself in at the Grand Prairie Public Safety Building the day after. At the trial, Assistant District Attorneys Megan Bradshaw and William Knight led the prosecution, which culminated in Wilson's 40-year sentence. In a testament to her character, Freeman's obituary remembers her as a "marvelous woman with the biggest heart," who had a longstanding career with GM Financial and was an alumni of ITT Tech. "Sabrina gave freely, and always helped those in need," her family wrote, "She did this without question or judgment. She was the true definition of an Earth Angel", per Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
