A coastal caper came to a head this past weekend when San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies slapped the cuffs on an Oakland man for possession of stolen property. Following a report to authorities on Saturday, the individual, identified as Treshawn Rentie, made off with goods from a vehicle burglary near the famed Pigeon Point Lighthouse.
The Sheriff's Office, dispatched around 4:30 p.m., quickly nabbed Rentie after stopping a Hyundai that fit the bill for the getaway car. According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office press release, the 26-year-old harbored ill-gotten merchandise from a recent burglary along the Coastside area. However, as they brought Rentie down, the driver's seat was taken by the passenger, who then gave Deputies the slip and remains at large after a high-speed chase that fizzled near the Highway 280 and 380 exchange.
Now cooling his heels at the Maguire Correctional Facility, Rentie awaits the reckoning for his alleged misdeeds. Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Office keeps the heat on the second suspect, their search bolstered by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) aid. The whereabouts of the fleeing Hyundai and its driver are still up in the air, but authorities are determined to close the net on this coastal crime spree.
