Residents of Pahokee can breathe a sigh of relief as the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department has wrapped up repairs to a busted water main near Belle Glade Road. The department had to shut down the northbound lane of the road by the crossroads of N. State Market Road and E. 7th Street, causing detours and delays that drivers could have definitely done without, according to the news release.
The disruption started at 10:00 p.m. last Friday, when crews got to work to quickly rectify the issue that had sprung up. They managed to completely restore the water flow and traffic was back to normal by early Saturday morning. The department has been eager to quickly and safely complete the repair, to make sure the morning traffic wasn't going to get snarled.
A statement from the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department extends their apologies: "We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank the community for their understanding as our crews worked to complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible." This apology was directly addressed to the community which had to deal with the construction chaos.
The speed of the repair is indeed a testament to the department's efficiency, with workers racing against the clock to ensure that normalcy was restored before too many people had to alter their weekend plans. All lanes were open and clear for travel as of 6:00 a.m. Saturday, promising an uneventful commute and water service that was uninterrupted.
The original news of the work completion and the department’s statement can be found in full detail on the county's official newsroom website at Palm Beach County Government’s site, published on December 2, for those looking for more information or to confirm the status of their water service.
