
In what erupted into a chaotic scene at a Walmart in Belmont, North Carolina, two suspects were arrested after allegedly pepper-spraying employees, attempting to hit them with their getaway car, and leading the police on a dangerous pursuit that culminated in a traffic collision and a foot chase. According to a press release from the Belmont Police Department, the incident occurred on December 22, when the suspects engaged in what authorities call a larceny gone violently awry.
The authorities arrived startlingly fast, within a lone minute after the distress call was issued, finding the suspects fleeing the scene, which led the officers into a perilous pursuit as the driver tried to strike a police vehicle. Their vehicle, later on, crashed into another car. Fortunately, the motorist involved managed to escape injury. The press release noted that Jaqualla Monique Qua Simmons, the alleged driver, has been hit with a slew of charges – among them are felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony flee to elude arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, driving while license revoked, and several misdemeanors.
Her accomplice, Dyshaune Boyd, is facing a felony robbery with a dangerous weapon charge, after the short-lived escape effort ended for both suspects on foot, they were swiftly detained by the police. The Belmont Police Department's release detailed that Boyd also required medical attention for minor injuries he sustained throughout the incident and was transported to a local hospital by EMS. Both suspects have seen their holiday season abruptly halt behind bars, pending further legal actions.
The Belmont Police Department urged anyone with further information about the incident to come forward as investigations are ongoing.
