The heartless act of a 13-year-old boy has left a community shaken as Derek Rosa stands accused of the chilling murder of his own mother, Irina Garcia, in Hialeah, Florida. Hialeah police relayed that a 911 call led them to the residence at around 11:30 p.m. on October 12, where they discovered the body of 39-year-old Garcia beside a baby, unharmed in her crib. NBC Miami's account indicates the adolescent made a disturbing 911 call, stating, "Ma'am, she's dead," and acknowledged, "there's blood all over the floor." Across baby monitors, photos from the crime scene showed the young teen, charged as an adult with first-degree murder, hovering over his mother—images that mark the macabre aftermath of the alleged patricide.
According to NBC Miami, Rosa is currently confined at the high-security Metro West Detention Center. Photos released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office included a blood-covered knife presumed to be the murder weapon and even a selfie Rosa purportedly sent to a friend after the crime, with visible blood on his hand.
Awaiting the court's decision on a potential move to a juvenile detention center, Rosa's isolation is stark, locked away in a cell with only frosted windows leading to the outside world.
