In a significant crackdown on retail crime, the Plano Police Department nabbed ten suspects in a coordinated theft deterrence operation. Staged along the bustling US 75 corridor, law enforcement worked hand in hand with loss prevention from various retailers—ranging from supermarkets to home improvement stores—in a swift "blitz" onslaught aimed at halting organized retail theft across the area.
The successful nine-hour sting on November 30 involved no fewer than 14 officers from the General Property Crimes and Juvenile Crimes Unit, including the supervising Sergeant, the Neighborhood Police Officer Unit, and Patrol Officers who stepped up for an extra shift. This comprehensive approach resulted in ten arrests and the recovery of stolen goods valued at a substantial $8,466.55. Among those apprehended were repeat offenders who have a history of shoplifting merchandise, including one individual discovered with approximately $5,000 worth of stolen items in his vehicle—items that were likely lifted from unsuspecting businesses, according to Plano Texas Police Department.
Charges leveled against the assorted group of detainees included outstanding warrants, both felony and misdemeanor theft offenses, possession of controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal trespass, and the serious charge of forgery after two were caught possessing over $1,500 in counterfeit $20 bills. Alerted to the circulation of these forged notes, the Secret Service has since been drawn into the fold, opening the door to the possibility of additional charges.
