The local vegetarian and vegan community has one fewer dining option as of the start of this month. Red Lentil in Sharon served its last meal on December 5th, 2023, after two years of business. The shuttering of the Sharon location leaves the Watertown spot as the sole survivor of the health-conscious chain, a fixture in the Boston area since 2009.

Information surfaced on the BostonRestaurantTalk blog reveals the closure comes with a heartfelt message to patrons. "We are saddened to share that, as of December 5, 2023, this location of Red Lentil will be permanently closed. We have so enjoyed being a part of the Sharon community, and we've so appreciated all the support and love we've received over the past 2 years," reads the statement on the business's website. Gift card holders are not left in the lurch, though, as those for the Sharon outpost can be redeemed at the Watertown restaurant.

Red Lentil's exit from Sharon has removed a culinary fixture that specialized in converting comfort food classics into vegan and vegetarian delights. Sitting at 1 Pond Street, the closed establishment opened its doors in December 2021, hoping to parallel the success of its Watertown older sibling established several years prior.

Red Lentil's website highlights the remaining Watertown location's upscale appeal, offering "award-winning vegan & vegetarian cuisine." They are also known for executing catered events with "inventive menus and white-glove service." Despite the setback in Sharon, Red Lentil Watertown continues to foster a lively community spirit, inviting guests for more than just a meal with music shows, charity events, and cooking workshops.

While the Watertown venue maintains its status as a vegan dining staple in the Boston area, the closure of the Sharon Red Lentil signifies a local reshaping of the plant-based dining scape. The commitment of Chef Pankaj Pradhan to quality and the culinary arts will continue to flourish, at least in one location, as Red Lentil Vegetarian & Vegan Restaurant still stands at 600 Mount Auburn Street in Watertown.
