Chi-Town crooks have been working overtime as a spree of commercial burglaries throughout the 018th and 012th Districts has local business owners on edge, using hefty rocks or even vehicles to shatter shopfronts and wrestle with ATMs in the dead of night. In a series of break-ins, groups of masked men have repeatedly targeted visible ATMs, though their cash-grab efforts have yet to pay off, the Chicago Police Department warns, urging business owners to batten down the hatches and lose the window-facing cash dispensers.
These thieves struck the 300 block of West Superior Street twice, along with a smash-and-grab heist on South Halsted Street, striking fear and frustration in the district, as reported by the department’s community alert the incidents occurred in the early morning hours.
The police describe the gang as a quartet of young men, ages 18 to 24, cloaked in the anonymity of dark hoodies and black ski masks; it seems their taste for drama is only matched by their appetite for the almighty dollar. The police have rolled out tips to combat the heists: flood your property with light, keep eyes peeled for prowlers, and boot those ATMs from your windows.
The CPD suggests that if your surveillance catches these bandits in the act, save the footage, copy it, and hand it over to the Area Three detectives
