Royal Caribbean Counselor Indicted in Miami for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Minors on CruiseSource: Google Street View

A Royal Caribbean counselor is in hot water after federal charges were slapped against him for the alleged sexual abuse of two minors during a cruise. Cris John Pentinio Castor, 35, was indicted on two counts of abusive sexual contact in Miami, authorities say.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, the Filipino citizen is accused of the November incidents involving two six-year-old girls on the Celebrity Silhouette cruise ship, operated by Royal Caribbean Group. The ship had departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. Castor was employed as a youth counselor in the vessel’s Camp at Sea Youth Center when the alleged abuses took place.

The CBS Miami report mentions that an arraignment hearing is scheduled for Friday, indicating that the court will move quickly on these serious allegations. Royal Caribbean has not publicly commented on the indictment. Local and federal authorities, together with the cruise line's security, are undertaking the investigation.

Officials are urging anyone with information on suspected child abuse, including physical and sexual abuse, to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip through the FBI's website. This is following the federal indictment that has put a spotlight on the safety of minors in settings where they should be protected and nurtured, not preyed upon.
