The San Antonio Police Department is seeking the public's help following the release of a new video featuring potential persons of interest linked to the fatal shootings of Savanah Soto, 18, and Matthew Guerra, 22, whose bodies were found in a car at an apartment complex parking lot. According to KSAT, the video reveals two individuals near Guerra's car shortly before the time of their tragic deaths.
SAPD Chief William McManus described the footage, showing one person exiting a dark pickup truck and another departing the driver's seat of the gray Kia Optima, was discussed in a media briefing. McManus clarified that the individual from the Kia was not Guerra. The bodies, discovered on Tuesday, were found in Guerra's car parked in the 5900 block of Danny Kaye, as per the briefing obtained by KSAT. The police chief expressed that the deaths were being treated as a capital murder case but refused to speculate if the victims were already deceased at the time the video was recorded.
Both Eastward and Guerra suffered gunshot wounds to the head, as confirmed by the Bexar County Medical Examiner. Investigators are currently piecing together the events leading to the double murder and are delving into surveillance footage, social media, and cellphone records for their last known communications, reported KSAT. As per authorities, tips can be shared anonymously with the SAPD Homicide unit to aid in the investigation.
Further complicating the narrative, Soto, a pregnant 18-year-old, vanished shortly before she was scheduled for induction at the hospital. A TEXAS Department of Public Safety CLEAR Alert issued on Christmas Day marked her last sighting. Soto's mother, Gloria Cordova, told Fox San Antonio she believed her daughter was in trouble, especially in light of the death of her other child, Ethan Soto, last year.
Meanwhile, Guerra, who had a history of legal troubles, was on probation for assaulting Soto in 2022. Found parked on the 5900 block of Danny Kaye at the Colinas at Medical Apartments on Tuesday, with a gunshot wound around 4 p.m, the grim discovery was made. The local police have not suggested Guerra had a hand in Soto's death, although Chief McManus admitted the situation as "perplexing," as detailed by Fox San Antonio. A GoFundMe has been set up to support the Soto family with funeral expenses.
