This week, beginning with the announcement that Sangria on the Burg is closing its doors for the final time on December 31. The Medical Center staple, known for its unique blend of sliders, tacos, and signature sangria flights, has fallen victim to contemporary economic pressures. Owner Ceasar Zepeda broke the news on Monday evening via social media, citing rising costs and declining sales.
"Please choose the mom and pop over the national brand … We sponsor your kids (sic) teams, our kids go to school with your kids, we greet you when you break bread with your loved ones and we become your friends and neighbors,” chef said. “You would be surprised at how much only one more visit to a local business a month would improve our economy.”, according to the San Antonio Current.
Zepeda has expressed his gratitude for the years of support and has invited customers to experience the culinary joy of Sangria on the Burg one last time. "Please come out and support us again through another visit or a catering through Dec. 31," Zepeda announced in the San Antonio Express-News. .
