San Diego's Linda Vista Neighborhood to Welcome New Xinjiang BBQ Spot with Late-Night DiningSource: Google Street View

Linda Vista is about to get a new Chinese barbeque joint early next year, bringing with it the flavors of Northwestern China and a dash of nocturnal zest to the neighborhood. Xinjiang BBQ, a restaurant initially rooted in the culinary landscape of Monterey Park since 2017, is set to replace the old Saigon Restaurant near Thuan Phat supermarket at 6931 Linda Vista Rd., according to Eater San Diego.

Known for dishes that feature an assortment of lamb, including soup, chops, kidneys, and even testicles, Xinjiang BBQ prides itself on its barbequed skewers, available in spicy or mild. Beyond meat, the spot offers a variety of seafood snacks and aims to broaden its menu when it opens its doors in San Diego’s Linda Vista. In a statement obtained by Eater, owner Xun Tong expressed his intent to bring a piece of the flagship’s kitchen staff to maintain the same acclaimed quality and taste that has earned the establishment its reputation.

The expansion isn’t only a matter of transplanting flavors; Xinjiang BBQ is also recreating its Monterey Park late-night magic, staying open until 3 a.m. on weekdays and even later, until 4 a.m., on weekends. While the Monterey Park location is already a staple for after-hours dining, the Linda Vista branch is poised to offer San Diegans a similar spot to satiate late-night cravings with its larger kitchen and dining area, which will likely become another nocturnal haunt for insomniac gourmands.

As for libations, Xinjiang BBQ anticipates a varied selection of beer and soju once it secures a liquor license, further setting the stage for its late-night vibe. According to a notice from Xinjiang BBQ, the new spot has pinned down its grand opening for January 2024, ready to spice up the local dining scene not just with food but with an ambiance that's distinctly its own.

Xun Tong is already prospecting the future beyond the Linda Vista launch. He's considering opening a second San Diego location, pondering whether to double down on BBQ or venture into noodles or dumplings, depending on what local diners prefer. With an eye on expansion and an ear to the ground for taste trends, Xinjiang BBQ looks set to become a savory staple in the San Diego food scene.
