San Francisco residents brace for a wet and stormy week ahead as the National Weather Service (NWS) Bay Area forecasts a high probability of rain from Sunday to Thursday, with potential heavy showers and chances of thunderstorms. According to a post from NWS Bay Area, the upcoming weather event, which may start as early as Sunday night, brings with it the likelihood of 100% precipitation on Sunday night and Monday, raising concerns for possible thunderstorms.

Complementing the forecast, the weather outlook from the NWS indicates that the Bay Area will experience mostly sunny conditions with temperatures hovering in the mid-60s before the rainfall commences. By Saturday night, the chances of rain begin to rise, peaking at 70% on Sunday, with potential rainfall amounts ranging between a quarter and half an inch. The detailed forecast available on the NWS website notes that Sunday night and Monday anticipated showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with amounts accumulating between a half and three quarters of an inch, likely signaling the need for residents to stay alert and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.
In addition to the expected downpours, a minor coastal flooding alert is also in effect, attributed to higher tidal levels. The NWS warned of potential flooding around the San Francisco Bay shorelines during Friday's high tide, advising the public in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant. As per the advisory on the NWS website, coastal flooding could affect lots, parks, and roads, with isolated closures not out of the question.
Mariners are advised caution too, with a Small Craft Advisory in effect from this afternoon through Sunday morning. The concern is waves reaching 7 to 12 feet and southeastern winds gusting up to 30 knots. This advisory, communicated through the NWS website, specifically targets the waters from Point Arena to Point Reyes, urging inexperienced mariners and those operating smaller vessels to steer clear of these hazardous conditions.
The week ahead appears to be an unfolding procession of natural challenges, with the Bay Area at the mercy of weather elements. Residents and visitors alike are advised to remain informed, exercise caution, and prepare for the imminent inclement weather.
