A vehicle rescue operation disrupted traffic on North IH 35 this morning as emergency services rushed to the scene between the 6900 and 7400 blocks, causing extensive delays for travelers. The incident, which initially called for a vehicular rescue, involved the Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS), Austin Fire Department, and Austin Police, as reported by the ATCEMS X account. Shortly after the initial response, the ATCEMS updated the public via X, stating that the Austin Fire Department had successfully extricated the trapped individual, canceling the need for continued vehicular rescue attempts; however, the situation remained critical as they moved to evaluate and treat the patient who was freed from the wreckage. Despite the resolution of the rescue, officials cautioned residents to continue steering clear of the affected section of the highway as delays persisted.
The incident reached a critical juncture when ATCEMS medics, having assessed the patient's condition, declared the individual a trauma alert, indicative of potentially serious injuries. The patient was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center for further care, as confirmed by an ATCEMS statement. The aftermath of the collision and ongoing investigations ensured that traffic disruptions continued well into the morning.
