Coca-Cola is pulling thousands of Diet Coke, Sprite, and Fanta Orange cases off the shelves in a tri-state recall over fears cans might be contaminated with "foreign material." Consumers in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida have been put on alert after approximately 2,000 12-pack cases of these popular sodas were flagged for potential contamination, as per CBS MoneyWatch.

The recall, which started on November 6, was put into action by United Packers, LLC, a Mobile, Alabama-based company. A breakdown of the recall numbers was not immediately available from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, but it comprises 1,557 cases of Sprite, 417 of Diet Coke and 14 of Fanta Orange, as detailed by USA Today.

While the exact nature of the "foreign material" has not been disclosed, it has raised concerns among consumers and retailers alike. With no reports of harm or injury to date, Coca-Cola has asserted that the recall is now complete, reassuring the public that no further affected products remain for sale. This statement was confirmed by sources speaking to NBC News.

The identified lots being pulled from shelves are notably from three specific batches: Diet Coke 12-packs are marked with lot numbers JAN2924MBD3, Fanta Orange with UL2924MBD3, and Sprite with JUL2924MBD3, with best-by dates of Jan. 29, 2024, and July 29, 2024, respectively, according to a CBS MoneyWatch report.

This isn't Coca-Cola's first encounter with recall woes; in 2021, the beverage titan had to recall Minute Maid products amid concerns of metal bolts or washers possibly sneaking into their goods. Consumers are advised to check their soda packs for the specific UPC and lot numbers mentioned, ensuring they do not consume any possibly affected products.
