On Friday morning, a blaze tore through a single unit on the ninth floor of a Lake View East condo, sending two individuals to the hospital and prompting residents to seek shelter within their homes. The Chicago Fire Department (CFD) arrived at the scene of the 16-story building on 3033 North Sheridan Road at approximately 9:30 a.m. to handle the still and box alarm fire, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago.
The CFD encountered heavy smoke upon their arrival, but the majority of the building's residents were able to shelter in place while firefighters extinguished the flames. CFD personnel conducted thorough searches of the premises, assisting residents where needed. According to CFDMedia's X post updates, one victim, a 24-year-old male, was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital.

Further details disclosed by CFDMedia via their social media platform indicated that the fire was contained within a single unit, assuaging fears of a broader threat to the entire condominium. Salvage operations proceeded, and fans were employed to clear the pervasive smoke from the affected area.
The preliminary investigation suggests that an unattended candle may be the root cause of the incident, but this has yet to be confirmed. The Office of Fire Investigation (OFI) is carrying out an extensive inquiry to determine the exact cause of the destructive inferno.
