The quiet streets of Chicago's West Side became scenes of terror as multiple armed robberies, some involving semiautomatic handguns and knives, were perpetrated by a group of assailants in late November and early December.
Victims, caught in the vulnerable acts of maintaining their vehicles, were accosted by up to seven individuals demanding their possessions—often with the intimidating presence of a firearm or blade, according to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department (CPD). The assaults occurred across five different instances, beginning at the 4200 block of West Adams St. on November 29 at 7:03 p.m. and twice on the 4200 block of West Wilcox St. on December 1, followed again on the same street; in the most violent incident, a victim sustained serious injuries after being struck in the head with the butt of a handgun.
The suspects, described as male African Americans between 16 and 25 years of age, donning ski masks and clad entirely in black, have eluded capture despite one individual's distinctive facial scar. The public is urged to note unique characteristics, never resist such robberies and prioritize personal safety over possessions.
Residents and witnesses who may encounter or observe such incidents are advised not to pursue the assailants but to dial 9-1-1 immediately and, if possible, stay at the scene. As preservation of evidence and prompt reporting can greatly aid police investigations, the CPD emphasizes the importance of non-interference and cooperation, issuing a reminder to avoid handling any items until authorities arrive on the scene.
