In the early morning in a San Bruno neighborhood, a bold attempt to steal a vehicle was thwarted, resulting in a high-stakes pursuit that ended with all suspects in custody thanks to a collaborative effort by multiple law enforcement agencies. The incident took place on December 2 at around 4:53 a.m. on the 2400 block of Catalpa Way, where the suspects fled in a white Honda Accord, later revealed to be stolen from Oakland, per the San Bruno Police Department.
In an effort to escape, the suspects' getaway was halted when Officer Andrade strategically deployed spike strips, causing the Honda to limp along before being abandoned on Interstate 280 near the Crystal Springs Rd. on-ramp. The suspects scattered, with one, a 30-year-old Oakland woman, quickly apprehended by law enforcement. The coordinated efforts of various agencies, including CHP-San Francisco, Colma Police Department, BART Police Department, Brisbane Police, and San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the persistent rain, led to the capture of two more suspects—a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man. The juvenile was apprehended on Hawthorne Ave., while the man was discovered by San Bruno Police K9 Niko in a green area.
The two adults were taken to San Mateo County Jail, facing multiple charges, including attempted vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and evading police with a disregard for public safety. San Bruno Police praised the collaborative efforts as a crucial element in ensuring community safety.
The juvenile, whose identity remains undisclosed due to age, faced a different fate. Processed through the juvenile system, he was booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Facility, facing similar charges as his accomplices.
